Minster Centre Reduced–Fee Therapy Referrals

The Minster Centre's Referral Service offers psychotherapy and counselling to individuals.

Our extensive database of psychotherapists and counsellors covers many parts of Greater London, the Home Counties, Oxfordshire and further afield. The Referrals Manager can advise on the availability of practitioners in your area.

The Minster Centre also has consultancy rooms at our premises in North West London where practitioners see clients.

Who is the service suitable for?

Minster Centre counsellors and psychotherapists specialise in working with adults who may be suffering from a variety of emotional difficulties that may involve experiences such as:
  • loss and bereavement
  • depression
  • anxiety and panic attacks
  • crises of identity
  • relationship problems
  • eating disorders
The service will not usually be suitable for individuals who have severe mental health problems, who are actively suicidal or have a current drug or alcohol misuse problem.

If you feel psychotherapy or counselling might be helpful, the Referrals Manager can arrange a consultation to explore this more fully with you and to explain more about what counselling and psychotherapy involve.

The Referral Process

Referrals must be made directly by the person seeking counselling or psychotherapy, though the Referrals Manager is always happy to discuss potential referrals with concerned professionals prior to application.

The Referral Service does not operate on an emergency or crisis intervention basis. An appointment is always required.

You should telephone the Referrals Manager who will send you written information and an application form. (Taped or large print application forms can be made available on request.) When this is returned to the Minster Centre (together with the agreed consultation fee) an appointment for a consultation will be made. This will normally take place at the Minster Centre, though arrangements can sometimes be made to visit clients with mobility difficulties. If appropriate, a referral will then be made to a psychotherapist or counsellor.

This procedure will take several weeks to complete. You are welcome to telephone to check on the progress of your referral.

Fees

Fees are on a sliding scale and a reduced fee scheme is available. This is based on ability to pay and will be discussed at the initial consultation.

If you are accepted on a reduced fee basis, you will usually be seen by a senior trainee under the supervision of the Minster Centre. This service is widely used and after acceptance onto the scheme, you may be placed on a waiting list. If this is so, you will be informed of any likely waiting time.
