My purpose is for participants to formulate their own informed and practical psychotherapeutic approach, to alcohol and substance abuse treatment.
To do so we will be comparing and contrasting the philosophy and working practices of ’Twelve Step’ www.aa.org (the approach taken by Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous) with the work of ‘Twelve Steps’ major critic - Stanton Peele’ www.peele.net.
We will also be examining the nitty-gritty everyday issues of working with these patient groups such as:
- Creating a Working Relationship that actually works (why silence is not enough)
- Managing your own expectations
- Treatment-planning in our world of limited resources, (here we
will be looking at the the figures that predicate your chances of
success, plus the Nice Guidelines on Drug Misuse
http://guidance.nice.org.uk/CG51/NiceGuidance/pdf/English - Adult survivors of alcoholic/addicted parents
- Dual Diagnosis and working in a multi-disciplinary team.
