CPD - WORKING WITH ADOLESCENTS

Workshop led by Meera Kapadia

This one-day course will be run on:

Saturday, 20 March 2010

Adolescence is an important developmental stage, in the transition from childhood to adulthood, and there are many challenges and rewards during this process of identity formation. Adolescents can be challenging, difficult and/or rewarding as a client group.

During this day we will:

  • Explore the therapist’s own adolescence, and how this may influence their work with this client group
  • The adolescent as part of a system: family, peers and self, and the socio-political system
  • Working with adolescents from various cultural backgrounds e.g. Unaccompanied minors
  • Explore the specific challenges and service provision issues involved in working with Young People
  • Predominant Clinical issues in working with adolescents
  • Therapeutic relationship issues in working with young people
Teaching methods include a lecture, case studies, discussion, experiential exercises.
