Three Great Things Happen at the Minster Centre
- One is the actual theory and skills training: it has high standards
and a good reputation; it will give you an all-round education, and
could lead to an MA.
- The second is your own self-development, taking place through your
personal therapy and the experiential training group which is part
of the training: this develops not only your own self-awareness, self-acceptance
and self-understanding, but also your ability to relate to other people,
both on and off the course.
- The third is your own client practice and the experience of supervision
which backs this up.
Supervision Group Work
Supervision groups begin by working as skills intensives,
enabling you to develop and practice skills, give and receive feedback
and support. You will then move into smaller groups where you will
have the opportunity to listen to the work of other students who may
be more advanced than yourself. You can learn a great deal from this,
as well as from work with your own training clients.
The supervisor will be interested in your client, but will be more interested in you. He or she will be working to support your learning. You will learn the difference between personal development (with the help of your therapist) and professional development (with the help of your supervisor).
Just as in your own therapy, you can throw away these opportunities through being too defensive, too guarded, too reluctant to take risks. Just as in your own therapy, openness is all: first of all openness to your own experience and your own awareness, and then, when you are ready for that, openness to your supervisor and what he or she has to offer.
