Training at The Minster Centre

Accreditation

The Minster Centre maintains a consistent commitment to high standards in its training and ethics. The Centre's training requirements are, as a result, some of the most demanding and respected
in the UK.

Commitment to High Standards

Staff-student contact hours and supervised practice hours are kept high. Training, whether in theory seminars, experiential training groups, or supervision sessions, is confined to appropriate sizes for these teaching groups.

All the Centre's staff have considerable expertise and experience and come from a wide range of specialist fields. Most maintain practices and continue to teach in a variety of settings. Several have published in their fields. The Centre recognises the strengths of such a range of skills and experiences, and care is taken to maintain this important balance.

UKCP

The Minster Centre has, for many years, worked closely with its accrediting bodies to help promote and set the standards for the psychotherapy and counselling professions. Since 1988, the Centre has been a full organisational member of the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and is one of the accrediting organisations of the HIP section (Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy Section). Its staff have also held several key posts in the UKCP's organisational structure.

BACP and more

Since 1993, the Centre has been an accredited organisational member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), and regularly attends its conferences and exhibitions. It is also a member of the UK Association for Therapeutic Counselling and the UK Association for Psychotherapy Integration, as well as the European Association for Psychotherapy and the European Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Integration.

Registration and Accreditation

Students who graduate from the Post Graduate Diploma and MA courses and have fulfilled the clinical practice requirements, may thus seek UKCP registration and/or BACP accreditation. Since 1996, the Centre has offered MA courses in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, validated by Middlesex University. The MA programme runs concurrently with the Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling Diploma so that students who successfully complete the MA programme will graduate with both a Diploma and MA.

For students who only complete the Foundation course, or parts of the diploma course, it is also possible to gain credits under CATS (Credit Accumulation and Transfer System), and to get those credits accepted at other universities and training centres, depending on the centre.

Ethical Guidelines

As well as careful observance of its own ethical guidelines, the Minster Centre also adheres to those produced by the BACP, UKCP, and Middlesex University these include guidelines on practice, supervision, training, and complaints procedures.
